Yosemite National Park (June 2011)

Hiking Yosemite’s Panorama Trail from Glacier Point to Yosemite Valley
In June 2011, I had the incredible opportunity to explore one of America’s most iconic landscapes — Yosemite National Park. My trip began with a visit to Bridalveil Fall, one of Yosemite Valley’s most famous waterfalls. Even in early summer, the power and mist of the falls were impressive, filling the surrounding area with cool, refreshing spray. It was a perfect way to kick off my adventure in the park.
The Panorama Trail — Distance: 8.5 miles | Elevation Loss: ~3,200 ft
The next day was the highlight of the trip — hiking the Panorama Trail. This epic point-to-point trail begins at Glacier Point, one of Yosemite’s most breathtaking viewpoints. From this vantage point (7,214 ft elevation), the panoramic views of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and the High Sierra were absolutely unforgettable. The trail lived up to its name, delivering constant jaw-dropping scenery at every turn.
The trail descended past Illilouette Falls (with a brief uphill section), before continuing its descent towards the mighty Nevada Fall. The sound of rushing water grew louder as I approached, and the views looking down into the valley were nothing short of epic.
Mist Trail Magic — Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall
After crossing the bridge over Nevada Fall (594 ft drop), I continued along the famous Mist Trail — one of Yosemite’s signature experiences. The steep granite steps and the spray from Vernal Fall (317 ft drop) were exhilarating and completely drenched me along the way. It’s called the Mist Trail for a reason!
Eventually, the trail led all the way down into Yosemite Valley (4,000 ft elevation). After logging around 8.5 miles and descending nearly 3,200 feet in elevation, my legs were tired, but my spirit was full.
Driving Tioga Pass — Highest Road in Yosemite
The adventure didn’t end there. The day after our hike, we left Yosemite Valley and took the scenic drive through Tioga Pass (Highway 120) on our way toward Nevada. This route had just recently been cleared of snow — opening for the summer season. Driving through the high country of Yosemite, we passed near the park’s highest elevations, including Tioga Pass itself at 9,945 feet above sea level.
Coming from Florida, this was a special moment for me. I don’t get to see snow very often — if ever. Even in June, patches of snow still clung to the ground along the roadside and in the distant peaks. The dramatic mountain scenery, alpine meadows, and crisp mountain air made this drive unforgettable. It was a perfect farewell to Yosemite and a fitting end to a trip filled with natural wonder.
